Early on in my career, I started with high and low volume spas, honing in my skills with every session. The goal was and remains to expand my understanding of the human form and how to expertly apply massage modalities. After building a strong spa massage, I found my self eager for a larger challenge. A gym became my new environment, affording me the chance to work expand on the many aspects of sports massage. During this time, expanded further to work in a chiropractic office. This allowed me access to more challenging bodies, affording me to expand my medical massage experience. The next step for me was to teach. I spent time teaching massage therapy with a small school The Lotus Signature Massage School(Now called The Lotus and the Light Metaphysical Center. This experience allowed me to dive deeper into massage therapy, to really understand manual manipulation of soft tissues. I discovered a deep love for educating individuals about anatomy and physiology from the massage therapist perspective. The next step was a step into DC's oldest and largest Spa Deluca Bodywork and Massage. This was short-lived due to Covid-19. Facing layoff, I spent time studying Hatha Yoga, leading to a Certified Yoga Teaching Certification. The marriage of massage therapy and yoga is incredibly beautiful. When the world began to open up, I found my current space in Tysons Corner, The Yulli Therapeutic Healing Center. This has been a high point in my career. Manual lymphatic drainage, Scar tissue, Pre/Postnatal soon were added to my arsenal of modalities. I love massage therapy and wish to only continue growing and teaching. Thank you for taking the time. Peace
Sports massage is defined as a collection of massage techniques performed on athletes or active individuals for the purpose of aiding recovery or treating pathology. Three forms of massage are frequently reported in the sports medicine literature: effleurage, petrissage, and deep transverse friction massage
Thai yoga massage is a traditional therapy combining acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, and assisted yoga postures. The idea of Sen-lines alias energy-lines was first used as "Thai yoga massage". These are similar to nadis as per the philosophy of yoga by Gorakhnath.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a type of massage based on the hypothesis that it will encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a specific amount of pressure (less than 9 ounces per square inch or about 4 kPa) and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.
Medical massage is outcome-based massage, primarily the application of a specific treatment targeted to the specific problem the patient presents with a diagnosis and are administered after a thorough assessment/evaluation by the medical massage therapist with specific outcomes being the basis for treatment. It is also known as clinical massage or treatment massage.
There are many massage schools and programs that teach medical massage as a technique. Though medical massage is any massage treatment used to treat specific medical conditions, there is no one technique that is medical massage. Medical massage is taking whatever style of massage the practitioner knows and applying that technique to specific conditions to bring about specific outcomes.
Prenatal/Postpartum massage is a technique involving deep bodywork to improve circulation, take strain off muscles and joints, and help during prenatal and postpartum pregnancy phases. Massage therapy can help minimize the discomforts of pregnancy. Prenatal and postnatal massage can help by relieving back strain, headaches and ease postpartum stress. There are prenatal massage guidelines that a massage therapist should abide by to ensure safe sessions. Prenatal massage has many benefits such as hormone regulation, reducing swelling, improvement of nerve pain. This type of massage can also aid the circulatory and lymphatic systems, improve mood and lower stress levels. Postpartum massage helps mothers after delivery to restore their body and ease postpartum depression.
Scar tissue massage is a gentle and effective technique used to decrease discomfort, fascial adhesions, dark coloring or congestion of scar tissue. This technique will be offered after filling out a health history form and discussing the injury with the practitioner.
